  • About the Koreras

    Mahamadou & Rougui Korera / 1255 E. 15th Avenue (8 member family)

“Beyond excited” was Mahamadou Korera’s first thought when he learned from a friend about opportunities for homeownership through Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio. Mahamadou, an employee at The Limited, and his wife Rougui are the proud parents of five children. With seven people in the family, overcrowding has been a constant struggle in their current rental property.  The older children were really excited to learn about their future home and are hoping they can help play a role in earning sweat equity hours for the family. Both Mahamadou and Rougui are anxious to get started and are willing to do anything to bring their dream to reality.

To the house sponsors and volunteers who will play a role in building the Korera Family Home, Mahamadou can only say “thank you, thank you, thank you for your help!” “Rougui and I always hoped we could provide a home of comfort for our family. Habitat will help make that possible for us!”

On February 15th, Church of the Resurrection participated in their first Key Ceremony.  It was quite a joyous occasion!  Parishioner Patti Kehehen was chosen to present the key to the family.  Praise Choir member and New Albany Student Habitat Club member Izzy Vendetti  sang,  “A House, A Home”.  Mohanadou and Rougi Korrera expressed immense gratitude to everyone involved, and treated everyone to a delicious lunch. The Holy Spirit was truly felt as all in attendance sang Let There Be Peace On Earth.  As the Program cover states, “This Home was Built With Love”.

Our crew on October 19th persevered through rough weather to complete external siding, roofing preparation, and basement work. The meal crew provided an excellent hot lunch of sloppy joes and hot beverages to warm them up. Despite the cold, rain, and mud, folks had a great time and some want to volunteer again!

Next build is November 16th. While we have enough volunteers for that day, if you are interested in volunteering for habitat in general, you can sign up to receive emails for volunteers by going to

We celebrate today a union of souls coming together to share love of neighbor, to share peace that comes from freely giving the gift of ourselves, and our shared desire to make the world a better place. Dear Lord, you inspire in us the firm hope that the building we begin today with your blessing will be brought to completion with your protection. - (excerpt from prayer recited at wall raising, written by Suanne Gettings)

The wall raising ceremony was held September 14th with all the community partners. Habitat employees, partners, and the Korrera Family have been working both weekdays and weekends to raise the exterior of the home since early September. Unfortunately our first build Saturday was cancelled due to rain, but we will hope mother nature cooperates for our next date on October 5th. It is likely that the volunteers may be working on the interior by then so weather won’t matter!
