By Baptism we become members of the Church, the Body of Christ.
The origin and foundation of Christian Baptism is Jesus. Before starting his public ministry, Jesus submitted himself to the baptism given by John the Baptist. The waters did not purify him; he cleansed the waters... Jesus did not need to be baptized because he was totally faithful to the will of his Father and free from sin. However, he wanted to show his solidarity with human beings in order to reconcile them to the Father. By commanding his disciples to baptize all nations, he established the means by which people would die to sin – Original and actual – and begin to live a new life with God.
In Baptism, the Holy Spirit moves us to answer Christ's call to holiness. In Baptism, we are asked to walk by the light of Christ and to trust in his wisdom. We are invited to submit our hearts to Christ with ever deeper love.

Parents preparing to celebrate the sacrament of Baptism with their child, regardless of the child's age, are asked to participate in a Parent Preparation Session with each child. The session is held on the 4th Sunday of the month in the Our Lady of the Resurrection Chapel in the Church. Baptisms are scheduled following attendance at the session.
After registering for the class, you will receive a response with further information regarding the celebration of Baptism at Church of the Resurrection.
Adults who have never been baptized take part in the OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults), and will typically be baptized at the Easter Vigil. The Catholic Church recognizes baptisms from other Christian denominations that baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
One must be baptized before sharing in any of the other sacraments the Church has to offer. Baptism gives us new life in Christ through the forgiveness and washing away of Original Sin. An indellible mark is left on the soul of the baptized that signifies them as a follow of Christ for all of time.
